Mythology for my mask (Ferham)

Zina Sabir
Ferham
Years ago, people who lived in the first world believed that every child who was born as a girl must die. The reason behind this was that they believed that women had no power to change the world. Therefore, killing them was the only choice they had. One day, a girl was born and her mother, the queen of the first world, loved her with all of her heart and did not want to see her daughter die. She made her a mask to put on and pretend she was a man. Since she was already a girl this mask was coloured differently and had a unique meaning for each half. The first half was a girl with pink/ red colours and feathery eyes. It had red jewels and a very long chin that was red. The other half was a guy with short black hair and blue colours. It also had blue jewels and a very long blue chin. Many people got fooled and believed that she was a guy. Years later, she called herself Ferham and ended up becoming the king of the first world. Ferham was able to change the rules and allow women to live. She made the world a better place for all the women and ended up telling everyone about the mask she was wearing all these years.

Proportion and Distortion

1. How do exaggeration and distortion affect proportion?

Exaggeration and distortion affect proportion to create art works with unsual qualities.

2.What distorting effects can an artist use?

Some artists use effects like enlarging, twisting, enlarging, bending and lengthening.

 3. Why do artists use distortion?

Artists use distortion because it shows the mood and feelings in the art work which helps the viewers understand more about the art work.

4. How can artists create monumental qualities without using a large scale?

Some artists create monumental qualities without using a large scale by exaggerating proportions and spacing.

SPACE

Space questions
page 103
1. Define positive space and negative space.
Positive is the shape or forms in art
Negative is the empty spaces between the shapes.
2. What words specifically describe three-dimensional art?
Over, under, through, behind, and around.
3. What are the two types of relief sculpture?
Bas relief or low relief.

Texture

Texture is an element of art that describes how a pictures feels for example if it is smooth, rough, etc.

The element of art, value, related to texture because it can show you what the texture is without actually feeling/touching the object.

Implied texture is telling what the object is without touching it (By it's appearence).

Real texture is telling what the object is by feeling/ touching. (By how the obejct feels).

Medium

Medium is the graphite inside the tool you are using to create your art work. For example, a    pencil.  The medium of the pencil is the lead inside that is used for drawing and shading.

Value

1. Why is value so important in ART?

Value (darkness and lightness) helps us tell what the shape/object infront of us is.

2. How does element of value relate to the element of texture?
Value makes us see the texture of the object without actually touching it.

3. List 5 ways of rendering (ir. drawing) value.
-Cross hatching
-Hatching
-Scribble hatching
-Stippling
-
4. Describe what we mean by building value in an element.
It's when the shading slowly becomes darker. In our value table we started from white all the way to black.

5. How do we best see value?
For exmple, in a cube we see value from one sides of it. Value starts off really light then darkens to black.

Geometric/Organic drawing

This is my drawing for the geometric and organic project. The organic side is on the left and the geometric side is on the right. I tried to change the colors between the two drawings to show the difference clearly between the organic and geometric side.

Real vs. Implied, Geometric vs. Organic

1- a) What do we mean by elements in art? Explain.
Elements in art are everything art is made up of. There are six important elements of art such as
Line, shape, form, value, texture, and space

b) How line and shape are related?

Shapes are made out of lines. For example, rectangles, triangles, squares, etc are all made out of lines.

c) How shape and form are related?

A shape has two dimensions (Length and width). A form has both length and width except it also has height.

d) Define and provide visual examples of real and implied lines?

Real lines are lines that continue going.
Implied lines are dots that follow eachother in a straight line

e) Define and provide visual examples of geometric and organic lines/shapes, including the idea that organic shapes are typically found in nature (with some exceptions), and geometric shapes are typically human made (with some exceptions). Be sure to cite a couple of examples of the exceptions!!
Geometric shapes/ lines have clear edges when using tools to create them such as circles, rectangles, squares, triangles, etc.

Organic shapes/lines are shapes with a natural and flowing look.

Line

1. How does the author define "line"?
A line is a basic element in art, it is a dot that keeps going in a space Lines can be drawn as vertical, horizontal, diagonal, zigzag, curved, straight, etc. They can be short of long, wide or skinny, and rough or smooth.

2. What is required to make line? (This must be pretty important if it is so closely linked to line!)
Drawing tools are required to make a line such as a pencil or anything to draw with. Also, a ruler if the line is going to be straight and the artist needs to decide what type of line they're going to draw.

3. What is "dimension"?
Dimension is the length, height, or width of a shape or an object.

4. List many ways that artists create line.
Artists use different techniques to draw lines such as hatching, crosshatching, stippling wich can be an example of an implied line, changing the texture of the lines, etc. Artists always try to come up with unique ideas to make their paintings the best.

5. Define an "outline" and an "implied" line.
An outline is the edges of a paiting or anything drawn.

An implied line can be dots that follow as a line.
